Who is Nina Alexandra Riggio

Nina Riggio is a visual journalist and photographer who is currently based between Southern Colorado (near the four corners) and California, U.S.A. Nina lives to tell the stories about human connections to the natural world and all of the flaws that go with it.

Nina has biked across the United States unsupported and solo hiked the 500 miles across Colorado in 23 days. She has an up to date Wilderness First Responder certification, and has completed the crisis and trauma training through DART. Her clothing choices have been described as ‘cowgirl punk’, and when she’s not making photos she does Archaeology, loves rock climbing and ‘wheelin’ in her 1994 Mitsubishi Delica named Annie Oakley.

Recognitions, Awards, and Education

Nina attended the XXXIII Eddie Adams Workshop, the 2019 Missouri Photo Workshops, and completed the photography internship with The San Francisco Chronicle the summer of 2021. She hopes to continue working to document nuanced human conditions of all scales.

In 2022 she was nominated as a finalist for an ASME award for her TIME magazine piece. In 2019, Nina attended the 71st Missouri Photo Workshop where she was the recipient of the Howard Chapnik Award for documenting social issues with honesty and integrity. (Link) She was selected for an exhibition in 2020 at the Athen’s Photo Festival, and is a member of NPPA, Women Photograph, and the Overseas Press Club. She is the recipient of four Economic Hardship Reporting Grants for issues concerning houselessness, and one Pulitzer Center Grant.
